I'd get the Charlet Moser Snowalker. It's similar to the Snowracer but you can choose the size. Its pick is by far better than the Snowracer's: http://www.petzl.com/catalogue/Petzl-Sp ... 010-GB.pdf

Thanks again everyone, the tips are really helpful. Last question on this thread: since the Trango Extreme Evo's can have a toe bail as well as heel, would I necessarily want to get the full clip-ins or might new-matics have advantages? In other words, are full clip-in crampons always preferable (given the same model of crampon) if the boot can take it? Again, I predict this will be mostly for general peak-bagging, mixed route climbing. I won't be specifically going out to climb ice, so want something versatile. (Aside from price, would there be any reason to NOT get the Sarkens over g12? they seem about the same weight, both state versatility, with the sarkens seeming to have a more aggressive capacity)

I really appreciate the support on here, hope to return the favors someday, or at least see you on the east side of the Sierra this spring!

Hi all,

Quick update- I found some Sarkens (step-ins, leverlock) on sale at Marmot Mountainworks and swooped 'em. Hope they work out for me. Thanks for all the support and info!
