Hey guys, I'm looking for some help on buying some mountaineering boots.

I'm a novice, and a poor one at that, and I need some help with brand, model, and price range I should be looking at. I live in Peru so I will be doing some climbing down here, and maybe some in Patagonia, before I head back to the States, if that matters.
Also, I was wondering what size I should be looking for? I wear a 10.5-11 or 44 shoe. I will obviously need something a little bigger, but how much bigger should I be looking for.

LOWA Mountain Expert GTX are great boots. Moderately stiff for glacier and medium snow slopes. Good with crampons. Lightly insulated. I wear mine with one light-medium wool sock.
I got same size as my street shoes, (and I add an insole because I have a high arch).

I agree, stiff, but with enough flex for the more level ground. I use a light-medium sock, too... Smartwool.

Without more information on what you are planning to climb (hiking? alpine rock? snow? ice? summer vs. winter? high altitude?) it's hard to give any specific advice, other than get something that fits. Andy Kirkpatrick's article has information you may find useful:
