COLD!

Fingers and toes, that is. I've used decent plastics and toe warmers, the liner-fleece-overmitt combo and hand warmers. Heading out for some more mountaineering at altitude and was looking to upgrade a bit, perhaps. A couple of questions:

1) overboots or supergaiters? I've heard the former are warmer but may be tougher with crampons (which I'll certainly be using). That being said I'd love to hear from folks with experience using either.

2) warmest mitt for your hands? I might be using 2 tools sometimes but don't think I'll need the dexterity afforded by a glove, so this is just a gear question.

Folks, thanks a ton in advance!

Warmest mitt I have worn is the OR Alti. It's also the most expensive mitt I've ever worn. Not much dexterity though.

Check out the Black Diamond Mercury Mitt. Really warm and much better dexterity than the Alti Mitts, thanks to a trigger finger. I have both and pretty much never use the Alti's because they are so warm and bulky.

My wife (who is one of the coldest people I've ever met) has never had cold fingers since she started using the Black Diamond Mercury Mitt.

Those Mercury Mitts are so warm, my feet get warm when I put them on my hands! Good durable mitts, and I like the removeable liner for drying them out in a bag overnight, as you're hands will almost certainly sweat in them.

Madly appreciate the advice. It's a million times better hearing it from actual climbers than from some damned review site I found on google or from chooseyourgloves.com.

Thanks.

One question remains. What about the feet? I was wondering about supergaiters or overboots for warmth (and wearing crampons of course, the strap on variety). Anyone else want to weigh in?

From what I understand overboots will only work for areas where you will have crampons on 100% of the time because they cover the whole boot, including the bottom. Super gaiters are a bit more versatile but also likely less warm. I haven't used overboots but I have some insulated Sportiva super gaiters that definitely add significant warmth to my Evo's.
