I used to hate Arcteryx because of price too. Then, after seeing it perform for others on the mountain, I got some.
Their philosophy is to use the best stuff available and for all their equipment to be top of the line--that costs big time.
My new considerations are:
1)Company reputation
2) Customer Service
3) Product material/manufacturing process
4)Product design
5) Price (I still have to be able to afford my equipment)
