Crampons punctured my boots

I bought a new pair of backpacking boots (Asolo 520 GTX) and put on my black diamond contact crampons on them. I summited Mt. Shasta couple of days back, however, the crampons punctured my boots in a couple of spots (near the toes)
I wonder if anyone else has had this issue or was it just me (and my boots) ? I've used contact crampons before with my hiking boots and didn't have any issues and I've also used step-in crampons with Lowa GTX Mountaineering boots and did not have issues with those either.
Any word of advice ? Should I just buy plastic boots ?
