GoPro helmet camera users?

Anyone else try to capture their adventures on the hills with a GoPro?

I took mine with me to the Swiss Alps last week, and tried to film on the glaciers as well as on rock.

On the glaciers we had bad weather on the day that I filmed, and it turns out that the lense (well, cover, really) was so fogged up that none of the material is good.

On the rock I think my camera's positioning was off - it was aimed too high, so all you can see is hands grabbing holds, which becomes boring almost instantly.

So... I have shared my problems, but I hope others would be able to share some useful tips!

I use mine canyoneering havnt had any problems with fog. As far as angle what I do is have a buddy check me to make sure it's pointing in the right spot. Try googling GoPro fog maybe.

I've got one but have abandoned the helmet mounting setup for the chesty (GoPro chest mount), which places the camera directly in front on the sternum. That way I can always tell if the camera is off angle, ...etc.

As far as fog/dark conditions are concerned I've noticed the camera doesn't like low light conditions, lots of grain. It really works with in higher light for sure.

Here are a couple different videos I've shot, this first one starts out in the early morning, really low light in a narrow gulch, then as the day wears on the video quality improves pretty dramatically:

This one was in winter, bright and sunny.

Both of these were taken while the camera was chest mounted.

When I took my GoPro to SA in May I learned a few things too. I also think a chest harness would be nice. At first my video was shot too high, so there is a little bit of a learning curve. An LED back might give you feedback to help you point your camera in the right direction.
Regarding fogging, maybe using the completely enclosed cover would work better for you. Of course you have a trade-off with your sound with this approach.

I constantly had fogging issues too, but I was using the *closed* back. My thought was to try the open one, but it seems that's how yours was fogging.

Yeah my friend borrowed my GoPro just before the trip, and returned it with the wrong back: so I had two closed backs. That might explain the fogging.

For climbing, it seems it's better to aim more for your feet and down in general?

My friend was disappointed this year when it failed to work above around 6,500 m.

As far as youtube is concerned, the metadata contained within the music file is recognized when the video is uploaded. The majority of the time the copyright owner of the music and youtube have agreed on specific licensing issues. I.E. the video may not ultimately work in specific countries, or might have advertising contained within the video at times. Usually once uploading the video with music an email is sent stating all the specifics on the copyright for that particular track or tracks of music.

I haven't used mine too much but have the same problem with aiming it. On more than one occasion when I got home to check out the footage I have been disappointed. I need some more practice with that.

As far as the fogging concern have you tried the GoPro Anti-Fog inserts?? GoPro they are designed to absorb the moisture in the closed case. Personally have not used them but have considered getting them when I was in Costa Rica and it was raining and really humid.
Amazon sells them for $15 here
