"Colin Haley photo of Bjørn-Eivind Årtun on their new route, Dracula, Mt Foraker, June 2010." With a pair of $60 CT hammers of course.

Ha! Ha! I figured that was coming since it would seem you already know how to read. Happy what ever you cobbled together for yourself works for you. And happy I don't build a POS that I need to put on sale to get rid of. I'd bet cash on where you got the idea for yours as well. I directly supported Petzls efforts to build a Nomic hammer as I sure didn't want to continue making them myself. People have wanted them so on occasion I make a bunch of them. But only because I have never been happy with Petzl's choice in design. Most haven't been satisfied from the International feed back I get when I don't have hammers to sell. Which is why the C-T hammers continue to sell out every time I make a batch.

My hammers have been around for over 5 years. They have also been up some of the best new mixed and ice routes in the world. Often as not on tools of Petzl sponsored athletes. But you could ask Jon Griffith what he thinks of them if you like. One failure in that time frame (last winter in Norway) and it was recently replaced with a current 4th gen. hammer.

Here is a couple of comments on the Petzl production hammers for anyone more interested in the details on all three styles. Many will be satisfied with one version or the other of the Petzl products. I'm not, and can actually do something about it.

More on the C-T hammers as well and how they are made and original design input.

WTF?
$15, $40, $50 or $60? That is what I call a choice. Nice isn't it? Just make sure you actually order a hammer that will fit. In your previous post you linked a Nomic hammer that will work and a older model Quark hammer that won't. It is all about the details. Probably the same reason I build hundreds of Nomic hammers at a time as a hobby, and you have made one.

AHHHH, mine weigh in at a grand total 16grams each and are 7.2mm.

I guess name dropping as to who uses yours makes them worth $60 EACH.

BTW Dane, how much do yours weigh in at?

Love to a picture of that "nomic" hammer in full profile. 'Cuz it looks to be a older Quark with a cut down factory hammer to me. Prove me wrong with a side on shot of your "Nomic" hammer.

DIPSHIT now..... wow. I am not impressed you condenscending asshole.

That is two individuals on this thread that you have insulted that did not lick your nuts as you expected them to.

Not a cut down OEM Hammer either dickhead...

Ah.. your ad states they are for "Quarks" as well.

That includes the new Nomic, the new Quark and the new Ergo.

A pair of C-T hammers on the newest Quark....

Frankly Dane, name dropping means shit.

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. SO and SO uses my hammers. BFD. Like your hammers make them as you say sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

You gave them hammers to the "NAMES" you dropped so you could in turn drop their names on your ad. BFD who uses em. Cus I know those dudes aint stupid enough to pay no $120 for a pair of hammers.

Anyone that pays $120.00 for a pair of hammers they can get RETAIL for 80.00 then shave them down a tad to lighten em up, is an ignorant buffoon.

BTW DANE>>>> Why are all your tools on your blog nice, shiny and barely used! Hmmmmmmmmm

Funny stuff. You should do stand up. But haters gotta hate.

Name dropping? May be Stevie will help you out of this.
But since you "know those dudes" may be you should ask them what a *current" production Quark or Ergo look like so you aren't so obviously confused. Need an email or phone #?

Dumb..not dip btw.

"Not a cut down OEM Hammer either dickhead..."

And not 17g, if it is made of steel either. The design work? I'd say a bit less than what Petzl would have done.

Like I said DANE.... anyone that pays $120 for a pair of OEM U19's for the current model of Nomics, Quarks and Ergo's, is a total buffoon!

You haven't answered my question... how much do your $120.00 a pair hammers that one can get for 40.00 bucks cheaper w/free shipping, weigh each?

I also find it rather interesting that you are using GRIVEL HEEL LEVERS (NOT BD's) on your PETZL DARTS in your profile photo:

I've used use all sorts of crampon combinations over the years. Which allows me to then make an educated comment on those same combinations. Above? Those are Dartwins he is soloing with btw, not Darts as you assumed. I think Darts are a poor choice in the alpine. Not really me though. I'm only half the man that guy was. Guess I missed your point other than to be hate'un.

Dartwins and BD heels below.

And these are G14s with Petzl front bails.

These are Dartwins with BD levers as well although an older pair of crampons.

And these? BD stainless Serac's with Petzl front bails on a Scarpa Ultra.

I think Darts are a poor choice in the alpine..

Why?

What is the difference between ALPINE and any other application. MIXED is MIXED regardless if it is ALPINE or what ever else. Single Points allow you to get into nook and crannies that a dual will not. I have been on many obscure MIXED ALPINE situs in the past five years where I was glad I had on my Single Rambos and G20's.

Do you even use a single point pon consistently in any application?

Those look like a terrible fit. I can't imaging climbing ice with them. Clearly boot size is a real issue here, as crampons are basically one size and boots are 38-48. For the OP, I agree the Petzl heel studs are wide, so I can imagine the narrow heel on a small boot might slip through - not on the larger boot though.

Below is my standard alpine setup - Petzl Vasak Leverlock on LS Spantik size 47. You can see the heel studs are, if anything, not quite wide enough to fit the 47 heel, though they squash in snug when I walk on them. The toe bail fit is acceptable for me, I can't imagine it with any more gap (these are unmodified, not bent, straight out of the box) like in the Grivel/Scarpa pic above.

Excellent point Damien.

Size and boot type are indeed a key player in choosing the right match of pons.

Be a good idea to take ones most utilized boot to the retailer when shopping for their next pair of pons.

Or...

Having a specific pair of pons for each pair of boots as I and apparently Dane have done.

Crampon fit?
The original question .

For those actually still interested. A number of posts here over the past 2 or three years. From the very beginning of the blog actually. And several writer's opinions.

These are from the blog's search engine on "crampon fit".

http://coldthistle.blogspot.com/search?q=crampon+fit

FWIW, I don't have specific crampons for specific boots. I simply take the time to fit my choice of crampon to the boot.
