So I have just purchased one of these for a winter camping trip the February and wanted to know if anyone else on here has used them before. are there any tips you can recomend or any downsides to using this to build a shelter? My girlfriend and I are going up north to build a cave next week but I just wanted some more information.

Thanks in advance.

They have a forum with lots of info.

Never used one myself, but the guy who invented the thing lives relatively close and goes up and builds them in RMNP all the time, from what I've heard.

Ed posts on 14ers.com as Igloo Ed. He also arranges trips and demos through another site but I can't remember it at the moment. He is a nice guys and obviously a good resource for the IceBox since he invented it. Here are some links that I've seen him post good info on...

Definitely get in some practice. I have one but haven't used it much. I found it nigh impossible to set up solo, but pretty good with two or three people. Much less shoveling than a quinzee, but still takes a while, so it's good for base camp but not great for one-way backpacking.

Playing Jesus and bringing a Lazarus thread back to life, but I have one of these and have built quite a few igloos over the years. I've done a trip with Ed and learned lots directly from the master himself.

If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to offer my perspective.
