I have no shortage of tents and tarps and prefer to share a large floorless shelter to save on weight for most trips. The thing is some groups are not as "share friendly" when it comes to ideal sleeping conditions and I've decided I need a solo tent option when going with certain groups. I normally use my now vintage Golite Cave2 Tarp for solo trips, but shy away from it in buggy conditions.

I'm looking for a simple solo tent that could handle a fall or spring snow and my 6'4" height. No need for free standing. I'm looking seriously at the Eureka Solitaire at just $75, however this does not have any vestibule at all. I don't like a bunch of bells and whistles. If someone thinks it's cool or hip I'd just a soon burn it for heat. Would like to keep it under 2 bills...

What say you SP'ers?

Found this, did some research and think this will work best for me. Light sturdy Bivy/tent w/no poles at a little over 2 pounds. These are meant for the Euro Market but found a way to buy it direct for $100!!!

Lately if camping solo or due do snoring partners I have become favorable to taking bivy sacs. No setup and work great in all conditions, especially wind.

For robust treatment I take an OR Alpine Bivy, and for lighter weight considering a BD Twilight Bivy.

About the roomiest 1 person 3 season you'll find.......I think. Marmot EOS. Plenty of length, a tad heavy but leave all but 2 stakes at home and save 8 oz.

I have a Bivy Chad and use it alone or with my Cave 2 as needed. Still, if it's going to be raining/snowing for a day or two I'd rather have somewhere to read a book or do a little cooking etc. We've been doing a winter trip every year since 2005 (08 was my last one). I would not hesitate to use this Luxe X-Rocket for a week in January. I have a sub 2 pound 15 degree down bag and throw that inside my Big Agnes Cross Mountain to shed the H2O. That combo works out great down to about Zero as long as I don't burn a hole in my pad! I'm done with inflatable pads. I've had two issues, both in single digit temps in January. Nightmare!
