BD speed 22 vs. Arc Teryx 25

I am looking for a summit pack that I can use from base camp. I will be carrying up all my climbing gear, tent, sleeping bag, etc (plus summit pack) in my larger pack (MH South Col 70 liter). I will be using the summit pack for summer and winter day climbs from base camp. I was looking at BD speed 22 and the Arc Teryx Cierzo 25 and was wondering if anyone could offer some insight on either of these packs. The Arc Teryx is lighter, but the BD seems to be more durable. I am open to other pack suggestions, but am looking for a pack in the mid 20 liter range and can be packed down pretty small. Thanks.

Take a look at the Deuter SpeedLite 20. It's an excellent summit pack.

Check out cilo gear, and i would go for the cierzo no need for proper durability in a summit pack also please make sure you remove the hood.

you could try the rei flash 18, and the ascentionist 25 dosnt look to good you would be better of with a cheaper pack.

What does "climb" mean? I have used the flash 18 in the Sierra for Williamson from Shepherd Pass, Sill from Ellinore Lake, etc. I carried crampons, a 75' strap and some other stuff, but had to use the lash points on the outside of the pack. If you have to carry actual rock gear (rack), it will be very crowded.

The top pocket of you big pack is removable -- can it be made into a waist pack for extra volume? Nowadays I couple the Flash 18 with the top pocket of my Osprey Aether.

I got the Cierzo 25 and so far I am pleased.
I've used it for day hikes and rock climbing. I've been able to stuff double ropes and a single 70m but not much else. Otherwise I'd put my harness, shoes, helmet, some gear and clothes no prob. The top pouch is handy, the bungee cord is a bit flimsy but has held so far.
I haven't really mistreated it so I can't speak for it's durability but it is really light and compact, and pretty comfortable even when stuffed full at 15-20lbs

So I went with the BD speed 22, I was able to get it for a good price. I am trying it out this weekend for an annual ice climbing trip in the Daks. For anyone who is wondering what you can comfortably carry inside this pack for multi pitch ice climbing adventures see the list below. I will give you report on how it performed post trip.

1) Inside main compartment (filled to capacity):

mitts
belay jacket
first aid kit
v thread and extra cord
12 screws
12 slings
crampons
harness
belay device, extra lockers, and auto block
20 ft. 7mm cord w/locker

2) In the top compartment (only half Full):

Head Lamp
Cliff Bar
Power Bar Chewy Bites
Power Bar Gu packet
Justin's peanut butter packet

3) My two sterling half/twins ropes are lashed on top of the main compartment with the lid over top.

4) Ice tools are lashed on the back in the ice tool carrying system.

Some of this gear could be split between your climbing partner as well, freeing up some room. I hope this helps, cheers.

The pack worked great. I lead up to WI3+ with the pack on my back and it carried loads well. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a smaller ice climbing crag/multi-pitch pack.
