I am planning in hiking in Southern Patagonia, however, I have a torn meniscus and recently my injury has been acting up (after exercise it swells). I am at odds, on one hand I do not want to make my injury worse on the other hand I do not want to miss a once and a lifetime hikingopportunity. So my question is: How do you decide whether or not to push it or not? Thanks for the Advice.

Take a look at this also. http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/meniscu ... niscus.htm

I had a partial tear of the lateral meniscus because I didn't sufficiently warmup before a match. Though its now healed. If you take great not to increase the damage, then over time it can repair itself. Ensure you eat really healthily so as to get lots of essential nutrients into this area, keeping it warm as much as possible. So wear over-the-knee length socks. Avoid speed excercise, biking with high gears, shocks and heavy carrying (use a walking pole on that side).

In most cases, injuries are caused by failing to warm up and stretch. I expect it came on with a sudden twinge?
