Bozeman, MT

I'm going to be in Bozeman on Nov 1 and am hoping to go for a hike in the area. I'm going to be traveling and will have some valuable things with me (ie laptop, camera gear) and I don't want to leave them in my car while I'm hiking. Any ideas on where I can store my stuff while I'm hiking where it will be safe?
Thanks

Dude, if you wouldn't have told us, you would've been fine to just leave it in your car! Honestly though, there aren't many places (most of us don't bother to even lock our doors here in Bozeman). I could be wrong, but the SUB at MSU has some lockers in the basement that you might be able to rent (think airport style lockers). Call the info line to find out - (406) 994-4636.

P.S. No matter where you go, wear something bright (preferably orange).

Thanks for the suggestion at MSU.
Break-ins are so common here in Washington that I don't leave things in my car anymore.
Sounds like it's hunting season in Montana right now I take it. Looks like I'll have to pull out the blaze orange then, thanks :)

It happens from time to time, but break-ins at local trailheads aren't terribly common. There is a hostel in town that might store gear, I'm not sure. The only problem with the campus solution is you can't park anywhere near that building.

If all you want to do is run in and throw some stuff in a locker in the SUB basement, you can probably just park close and won't get a ticket if you're not there long. If you're going to be on campus for very long, you could pay to park as a visitor, which isn't too far from the SUB.

Orange is a good idea. November 1 will be the second weekend of the deer/elk hunting season, and while most of us are responsible enough not to shoot when we can't clearly identify the target, there's always a few idiots out there.

TMM,

If the MSU locker situation works out, you can park for free (30-minute max, you won't need more than 5) just south of the SUB. It's a gated lot at the corner of Grant and 7th, just don't lose your ticket.

As long as you stay on trail, blaze orange should be sufficient. I might take bear spray too, as there could still be a few bears up and about.
