I have done it (I have done all the ones I've posted about), but in the case of Woodring it was a long time ago. I think I went up on the SE corner and came down more or less straight south, but I just don't remember Holly Lake at all. It was late October and although the S slopes were clear of snow, the lake would have been frozen, so maybe it didn't make much impression. Anyway, both routes were definitely class 2. If I remember right, the views were quite excellent. I wonder where those pictures are now ...

Cool, it sounds like a good climb for my level. I think Mt. Woodring will be my plan for now. If I get a late start or the weather looks bad I will just wander around Paintbrush, since I'm sure that is a beautiful area even if you aren't on top of a mountain.

One good thing about Woodring is that, unlike most Tetons, you climb it from an angle where you can see out to the west so you are less likely to be surprised by the weather. If there are no storms coming in, go for it.

Are you kidding? This is perhaps the worst mountain I have ever been on. Well, at least the south face come up from Holly Lake. So, we were using it as an acclimating hike, coming from the east. The route looked pleasant, but soon we found out that not a single rock was secure. Not one. There were huge rock plates that would just slide. It was ridiculous. We finally got to the west ridge thinking it would be better, we could see the summit, only a few hundred feet away (confirmed by the gps) and hardly any elevation gain. It was not worth walking over there to say that I climbed it. In fact I would rather be able to say that I did not climb it!
I got to the bottom and told my friends "my condolences to Mr Woodring, I would hate a mountain like that to be named after me."
By the way that is the only summit I can recall that I have not summited in over twenty years. Last summer, my wife and I went to and summited the prime 14ers (54 of 'em), without a doubt it was worse than any of the 14ers, including Sneffles and Columbia.
My advice is choose another mountain.
In August, you might be in luck, there are windows of good weather; but if not - you must be super fit and acclimated to start anything at 9. Well, 9 is a good time to hike around Jenny Lake or better still to go to Dornan's for pancakes! All of the mountains, other than Teewinot are 5 miles (without a boat ride), and at least 3,000 feet (that would not even get you to 10,000'.) Don't underestimate your objectives.
Best of luck, maybe you will get good weather.

According to the testimonial above, this sounds like my kind of peak. Added to the list.

Haha sounds like an interesting climb... I already stated that if I don't get an early start I'm not attempting any peaks. My friend hasn't gotten back to me with a time yet so I'm still in the dark about what time I will be able to get started.

Well, there is some scree and talus. If ya want class 2 in the Tetons, it's hard to insist on solid teton granite at the same time. Anyway, Morlow's been bagging peaks in Yellowstone, and mtnjam, based on your reaction to Woodring, I suggest you avoid those Yellowstone breccia mountains at all costs!

Alright it looks like my friend won't be able to get a very early start due to the ranger station not opening until 8. So I won't be trying anything that Friday, but I will certainly keep the recommendations in mind when I get a chance to head down to the Tetons.
