Teton Conditions

Heading up to the Tetons in a week -- Avalanche Canyon, South Teton, Garnet Canyon, Middle Teton. I know there's a lot of snow. Anyone been up recently and can describe conditions? Rangers told me snowshoes not needed to get over Hurricane Pass (carrying an axe). Haven't been there before -- what about bugs? Any info appreciated. Thanks.

i can't speak for current snow conditions, but mosquitoes can be a real pain in the tetons. camping in the meadows or higher while in garnet canyon is the best bet. the mosquitoes are nowhere near as bad as they are at the platforms camp and other below treeline camps, where they frequently swarm campers.

This is the climbing rangers' website; lots of good info on here.

Some guy signed the Middle Teton climbing log yesterday. Not sure what route you're doing, though.

Have a good trip.

Thanks for the info -- I am going to be in Avalanche Canyon and the South Fork of Cascade Canyon (camping at 10,000 ft and 8,900 ft) for one three day "loop", in Garnet at the Caves for another (10,000 ft). Not sure of the climbing routes yet -- going to play it by ear depending on conditions. Should be a riot regardless of where I end up.
