Hello folks, question on Table Mountain: http://www.summitpost.org/table-mountain/152764
My girlfriend and I plan to head to Jackson in September.
I have experiencing climbing, but she doesn't. So we need a walk up peak.
She is a good hiker - but Table Mountain is probably her upper limit.
I see the walkup is accessed from Driggs Idaho 6.3 miles up SkiHill Rd/Alta Road then turn right up Teton Canyon road 4 miles to the trailhead.
Is that road accessible to a 2WD car?
Seems like you start at 7,000' or so. How long a trail is it? Is it easy to follow? Is it like 6 1/2 miles to the summit?
I am assuming that for a dayhike, you do not need a permit?

I have never heard of anyone having trouble getting to the Table Mt. Trailhead. There are no vehicle restircitions posted whenever the Sierra Club does a group hike there.I haven't done it in years but road was fine.

Another Teton Peak that can be dayhiked by fit hikers is often overlooked because its outside the core of the Range, Elk Mt. from Grassy Lake Road.

Some people say Table Mt. has the best view of the Tetons. I think that's innacurate because it is in the Range and you cannot see the entire Range. Mt. Leidy is widely regarded as the best view of the Tetons for this reason.

Table is about 13 miles roundtrip with 4 K elevation so your info appears sound.

If you have any interest in hiking some great 11,000'+ peaks in the Southern GYE I highly suggest you check out Bob Sihler's awesome Southwest Absaroka Page as well as Musicman's great Southeast Absaroka Page. In the Southwest Absaroka [closer to Jackson] the views of the Tetons, Gros Ventre, Winds , and sometimes rother ranges compliment the more immediate views of increibly magical South Absaroka Wall.

Two years ago in August the road to Table was as good as any other solid WY two-lane, can't believe it wd. change.

+1 for the recommendation of Static, though I'd say the Miild Teton is not entirely mild. Possibly Buck by the east face. SE of Disappointment, though your partner might like you to have short rope for the second chockstone.

Doublecabin has very wise things to say about alternatives outside the Tetons. See also Rebecca Woods volume on Jackson Hole hikes if you don't so much need a walkup in climbers' territory.

And don't ignore Hanging Canyon off Jenny Lake, hike down from String Lake parking lot.

You put the idea in my head so I hiked Table on July 31. I did the Huckleberry Trail which is signed as 7 miles each way. I was going to go down the Face Trail which is reported to be just 5 miles each way but thunder, lightning, and rain motivated me back down Huckleberry.

I am fat and slow, started 05:45 and ended 12 hours later with about 2 hours of rest time throughout the hike.

Something I forgot is that Darby Canyon has AWESOME deciduous variety in relative terms. Here's how it looked to the East from Table on the 31st.
