A lot of us take a look at the "what's new" page once or twice a day. That's where I spotted it. I did put a note in the "comments" section to the effect that it was a duplicate but I guess it got gunned with the page before you saw it. I also gave Brian a heads-up.
Wrt saving the work, I would hope that you composed it off-line and then simply pasted it in. If so, your work is already saved.
I would suppose that the elves are far too busy to send out notices every time a page has to be deleted. In a self-regulated site, that's how it is.
Also you might imagine that if Brian hadn't already "bagged" King's I would have done it a couple of years ago at least.
A good way to find out if something has already been posted or not is to go to "mountains and rocks" and search on "Vancouver Island". I've tested this and it does find King's Peak.
