What a shame. Please remove Roberto36 from Summitpost, it is not our dear friend Roberto (Chaberton) all of us used to know.
Personally, I know who Roberto36 is. I won't tell his name but he will recognize himself reading these lines.
It is a person I deeply respected and I am under shock, whatever were his motivations to do that.
I'm running out of words to express how disappointed I am such things can happen on Summitpost.

What makes you think Roberto36 is impersonating Chaberton? I see no indication of such an attempt. Surely there is more than one person in Italy named Roberto.

Do you really expect us to delete a user and his content based on only this information?

There was a Roberto63 claiming to be Chaberton. He was deleted. He also claimed Chaberton and Roberto36 were the same.

I'm sorry, but we're going to need proof or some really strong evidence, not hearsay.

On the surface, there is no indication that Roberto36 is trying to pose as Chaberton, so it's up to those who claim this to make a convincing case.

Agreed with Bob. Until we have enough evidence, that member should not be removed. Now imagine if there was a Josh36, would people think it was me. :wink:

I'll start bringing up evidence that he's not impersonating Chaberton.
1. Not a single wildlife shot. We all know that would be unChaberton like.

2. Roberto36 claims to be a different age than the real Chaberton!
3. There are no dots at the end of the posts, this was Chaberton's style

I could keep going down a list of things but you get the idea. Obviously they are not Chaberton, and it appears to me that they are in no way trying to impersonate him. Plus he joined way before Chaberton left.

Will the real Chaberton, please stand up.

I just did a "google search" on the number of Roberto's living in Italy ...

I agree with all of you, we call in in law presumption of innocence. And the couple of articles from this person are evidently of quality.

However...
- The similarity with Roberto63, real troll, is troubling. No ?
- All three Robertos are 44 years old (year 1963)
- All three Robertos are "Researchers into history of military mountaineering on Western Alps". How many of you guys are military researchers ?
- Roberto36 has not declined yet his real identity following my comment.
- Most of all, from the mouth of the one and only Roberto, the two others are fakes. Roberto takes great care of his work (an unique achievement if you read all his articles till the end) and is very sad that someone is willing to parody and evidently harm him.

May I add finally that SP can get in trouble with copies of articles and publications possibly made without the permission of their owners by the fake Robertos.

Then prove it. It's that simple. Stop with the hearsay, especially hearsay delivered through a proxy.

I'm happy to dump an impostor or delete illegally copied material. But I'm not going to do it simply because someone who left the site suddenly and without explanation, deleting all his material, is requesting that through other people but giving absolutely no concrete reason for doing so.

It's time for the grownups to take charge. Recess is over.

If Roberto is so certain of this, then he needs to step forward and make his case, privately to the elves if necessary. This spectacle of surrogates making claims and charges should stop.

Bob, I understand your position and I agree with you on the other side. We can't kick someone randomly without proofs and I respect your position.
But I'm sure you agree there are a lot of troubling coincidences.
I'm not an Elf on SP, but I know what tools elves own thanks to the sister site. Why not verifying with IPs ? Emails ? Have you kept Roberto63's data before deletion ?
I can't do the job of elves on this site so I can't prove you anything.
Meantime I'm noticing Roberto36 has replied to the page comment. That sounds a bit laconic to me and it feels like he's avoiding the topic...

I did. There were no matches. But any half-decent troll can see to that easily.

You say you know who the person is. You suggest the articles are illegally copied.

Provide the evidence to us (privately). Actually, Roberto should do it himself.

Roberto36 started adding material to SP back in March. Wasn't this long before anything with Chaberton happened?
