Does lacking a woman lead to dangerous soloing?

How many of the world's great solos are just because someone isn't getting any?

I know most of my biggest, baddest and stupidest solos were when I was a frustrated solo dog, how about the rest of you?

Oh yeah, lack of a girlfriend has led me to do some very stupid, dangerous soloing.

Oh wait, you're talking about climbing...

Nevermind.

No... my baddest solos occurred when I was regularly gettin' some when I was engaged.

Soloing for me had nothing to do with a woman. It was something I did IN SPITE of having a woman.

For me, it's both. My soloing, albeit modest, relates to winter climbing without rope or crampons. I got myself in some very tight situations, cutting steps up and down a steep mountainside and crossing ledges. But that's the part I remember most.

When I didn't have a gal, I pushed myself harder. And when I did, I pushed her even more

According to Jascha, dangerous soloing is not brought on by the lack of a woman but rather trying to impress a new woman who prefers soloing ;) 'Dangerous' is a highly subjective term.

I tend to do dangerous soloing whether or not I'm with someone.

But I could see how there's a correlation. Let's say I've got four days off and I'm with someone. I end up doing a road trip with lots of great hiking and partying and whatnot, but not as much climbing. Now if I've got four days off and I'm not with someone, it's more likely I'll end up climbing something nasty somewhere.

There was a story in one of the climbing mags a while back about soloing and women. The article described the reasons some of the top male climbers in the world did hard, dangerous routes solo. It wasn't because they weren't getting any but because they just went through a hard break up.

Free Soloing, at least the rock climbing, is a selfish endeavor unless nobody loves you. Look at John Bachar, it finally caught up to him and I bet he had friends and family that wished he'd have quit sooner.
You can glorify dying doing what you love, but either way you're dead and you don't get to do what you love anymore and you hurt those who care about you.

If you can't tell, I've mellowed out quite a bit since I got into a serious relationship with a girl who rock climbs, caves, writes music, and is a right winged religious fundamental wacko (RWRFW) like myself. :)
That kind of girl is hard to find.

I once went on and on about some young kid that augered in at Stolby, a life cut short.

Werner told me to stop being a pussy.

"Those men know how to live AND DIE." He said with assurance.

I accepted the rebuke and incorporated the lesson.

Werner cleans up failed free soloists for a living. Unique perspective, his.

Don't be a pussy,.

DMT

Amen.

So, conversely, does lack of a man make women do stupid things?

No, as a matter of fact we get smarter, since you guys never read the frickin' map.

lol I can add supporting data to this study.

Tackling daring (stupid) challenges is something people do when they just.don't.care. They tend to care by the end of it, though. 8)
