I think the bottom line is that people solo for different reasons, and not all of it represents self-destructive behavior. For me I find the intense focus meditative (similar to lane splitting on my motorcycle). It's one of the few times that my mind isn't filled with a whirlwind of thoughts. I also enjoy the speed and freedom of movement it affords.

I solo just as much now as I did when I was single....

I know my limitations though and I ONLY get on stuff that is well within my range of confidence!!!!

I think Jan is talking about "free solo" you know like JB usta do, only equipment required is:
Shoes, Chalk, Sunglasses, boom box and skills.

Ahh, it's obvious that you haven't Clean Aid solo'd anything that is A4 or greater.

It is just as narly if not narlier than the above Guy....trust me!

Climbing still is dangerous, you just don't go to the right areas. For instance, at Malibu yesterday I almost got hit with falling debris and falling gear 3 times. The place is full of idiots from the gym. They were all safe though because they had their helmets on!
