Belaying at the top of Hide-a way chimney at the Vedauwoo, Wyoming about 1977. The Vedauwoo area is ancient granite with big coarse crystals and is 20 minutes from the University of Wyoming. We took climbing 101, etc as gym option courses.
Typical starving student wear for day was blue jeans and cotton shirts. That is a used goldline rope bought for $25. The white leather roper gloves were leftover from the farm/ranch.

I didn't start that long ago, so no cool photos. I really like the photos you all have posted, especially the photos of you as a kid or with your kids. My parents certainly were into hiking and definitely not climbing. Maybe in a couple of years I can start taking photos of my son hiking and climbing with me. I wish I would have started when I was younger. Good stuff all!

June 1982 - It took 7 days, but I pedaled my bicycle about 600 miles from Fort Wayne, IN to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, so I could finally go see mountains! This picture was taken at Newfound Gap, looking towards western North Carolina. I would end up biking the entire Blue Ridge Parkway, which was a great way to get my first mountain fix. This was part of a 27 day, 2000 mile solo bicycle adventure that pretty much inspired my love for the mountains...and it's appropriate that this picture from 82 was taken where it was, as I have since then started and completed more hikes than I can count at Newfound Gap parking lot.

Camping along the shore of Lake Superior in Gooseberry Falls State Park, June 1983. This was part of a week long bicycle trip along the North Shore of Lake Superior. I was able to get in a number of short hikes on this trip. The waterfalls and cascading rivers in the area are beautiful and make for some easy hiking. North Shore of Lake Superior.

I've added these to Sarah's album.

These photos are fantastic. Just a reminder to please post them to the

Back in the Day Album. There are some serious gems in there and they're just getting better.

Thanks,
