I ran into Pat Ament the other day at the Gunk's. He was in town for a showing of his latest movie which I regrettably did not go to see. When I met him I really had no idea who he was but after chatting with him for a while and further research, he turned out to be an interesting fellow.

Steve, are you kidding? We young'uns practically idolize people like Alois (asmrz) and the other awesome, older locals. Farther afield (and deeper in history) there are so many venerable, bold, aged climbers...

Young and irreverent don't always go together, just like old and myopic or feeble don't always go together ;-)

Steve, I think there's much more appreciation for old climbers, than one might believe. There's always those who don't, but it's with that, as with everything else. Nothing to worry about. See it as their loss, not yours.

Simply put, that should tell you how stupid younger climbers are.

I´m turning into an old fart climber - I felt touched.......

I'm relatively new to climbing and would not be where I am without older climbers. I look up to my "teacher" and am always greatfull for the sacrifices he makes to climb with me.

There was a terrific feature story in one of the AAC Journals just a few years ago about these two guys who climbed an industrial strength Grade VI in Pakistan or Nepal (cannot recall of the top of my head) - one of whom was quite a name - and the difference in their ages was like 30 years. Not that his partner was a novice, but the combination was awesome - and successful. very cool to see that.
