You're not old enough to have met Ebenezer Bryce, Larry.

Furthermore, ol' E.B. was a Scotsman, not a Texan -- google "Monty Python Scotsman" if you need more information about Scotsmen.

Orlando to the Smoky Mountains is less than a 10 hour drive. Houston to Big Bend is more than eleven hours. And you have to drive across a vast shithole to get there. Mountaineering-wise, driving to either "mountainous" destination is not going to get you a sweet alpine climb. Six one way, half a dozen the other.

As far as Texans versus Floridians goes, I'd prefer Texans anyday. Once you get away from the beaches during spring break, Florida is mostly old, uppity, retired, white-haired types. Kinda like Arizona.

I gather that Wyoming is a terrible place to live regardless of their mountains.

I heard that they technically should not be a state, but a territory. When they got voted into statehood, they cheated by having people vote multiple times to ensure there was enough population to allow a state. Don't know if this is true, but interesting non the less. I wouldn't mind living there, the only problem is, no one wants a 3 hour commute to work, if they can ever find any.

Just like the dude said at the end of P. Floyd's immortal "Dark Side of the Moon ..."

"There is no dark side of the moon really ... Matter of fact it's all dark."

No kidding! I wonder if WY wont have a population migration out of the state to make it a territory. Hey, if I lived there I'd want to leave

I though Las Vegas was pretty bad. :P I would probably go crazy if I lived there!

Vegas ain't so bad if you like the mountains and don't live anywhere near the strip. Summers are brutal, but winter, fall and spring are rather nice. For some reason there are a ton of heath food markets. I've been told that this is because people overcompensate for the rather seedy lifestyle that often goes with living in Vegas and the large number of dancers both exotic and show...

Moapa, any words of wisdom? Rhino, Paradise or Crazy Horse III? :D

Is that a glass walled truck full of dancers? If so, where do I rent one?

Vegas proper is indeed a vile place. Not far away, though, is Red Rocks - sublime beauty and world class climbing. Wouldn't mind living in the Vegas area at all.

Loads of peaks in the Vegas area! Just look at Moapa's page and see...
The Mount Charleston area is very nice. Aspens, pine... almost easten Sierra like - well almost...

I would LOVE to live in Vegas. Mountains + Nightlife + 4 Hour Drive to the Sierras + 2 Hour Drive to Death Valley + Constant Visits from friends from Home = Happy Me.

Too bad they have no jobs there...unless I put on a wig and moonlight at the Rhino
