A baseball cap and a glove to catch foul balls is all the gear u need. Also the cheese steaks are delicious at yankee stadium.

oh wait you were wondering about HP NJ. its supposed to be nice weather wise and is an fun easy hike. wear a light jacket and hiking shoes. I got stuck in downpour when i did it on way down and was wearing junky sneakers, this is prior to seriously getting into this whole highpointing thing, and other than being uncomfortable its not much an issue.

But I'm afraid that my big swinging, well you know, may get impaled by my ice ax. I will need an ice ax won't I?

it's a nice area, try to do a lot of hikes in the park, the map sucks.

You wont need an ice ax if you got a big swinging THANG. Just arrest with that... Believe me, it takes some practice, but I got it down pretty well.

How'd it go? Conditions?

I'm leaving for Oregon on Thursday and will be attempting Hood over the weekend. Weather forecast looks encouraging at the moment.

12th times the charm!

Hood, sunny day after snow storm, tons of new snow, made it to just below hogsback and had 100cm new snow. Guide said avalanche danger so we turned back.

Rainier, 1st day blizzard but made it to camp muir. 2nd day perfectly clear but guide said avalanche danger above cathedral gap so we cpuldnt move yo high camp but had some walk around camp muir, 3rd day snow storm and we made our way down in 2.5hr.

I'm not tired at all, lesson learned is that if you want summit come in summer.

Alex, sorry your climbs did not summit. Your Rainier experience sounds similar to mine last year, except we had driving blowing and freezing rain down low while the blizzard was raging up high. Next time, my friend!

Did zodis give a reason for leaving? I found his information very helpful through this form, sad to see him go.

Don't know. I tried to engage him in our November highpointers hike in PA but never got a response. Hope he is OK.

Different topic, bought a ticket to SLC for August 2-6 so I am committed to Kings Peak and #32!

Good luck with the weather! Kings Peak is great hike but the weather is notoriously unpredictable. We had rain, lightening, snow and hail during my mini epic adventure there.
