Thanks for the additions Holsti. JeffH - if you have photos of any other benchmarks, you can add them to the album yourself. Here's the link.

Thanks!

Wonderful road trip last week to visit Mt. Arvon, Timm's Hill, Eagle Mtn., and the precipice of Charles Mound. 3400 miles from Delaware, 9 days, lots of good visiting with friends. Eagle Mtn. clearly our favorite of these experiences. Lots of other great fun including camping on the shore of Lake Superior in a gale, visiting Pictured Rocks and Bond Falls in the UP, staying at one of the cabins near the base of Timm's Hill (highly recommended), and catching up with old friends. Will post a trip report when I have some free time. Now 35 HPs for me and 20 for Lillian.

When I did Charles Mound I visited one of the local watering holes- and met the cleaning lady of the Charles Mound residence.
Each 'peak' has a good story!

Thanks, Catamount. I like that the elves turn the front page over more frequently than they used to. Lots of good stuff on this site to highlight.

Surprised no one commented on the name change. Figured after seven years gone from Florida it was time for a change. I fully expect you get the new meaning :-) Others not as famliar with upstate NY probably not!

Great fall day trip to the New Jersey High Point yesterday. I hadn't been since in college and my wife Lillian had never been to her home state high point. Perfect fall weather and an enjoyable hike with temps. in the mid-50s. It was the last day of the year that the monument was open to climb...an added bonus!

My last state highpointing adventure of the year was to Guadalupe Peak this past weekend. Perfect weather and an enjoyable hike. This was the 35th reunion of several college outing club friends. Wonderful park, fine mountain, good friends! #36

Nice work Frank! I had a great weekend in Guadalupe back in late September as well, got some great photos of Guadalupe Peak, White Sands Monument, and Carlsbad Caverns. I'm putting together trip report but my cousin took his camera with a lot pictures to Costa Rica so I have to wait to post. I’m at #29 now with no idea what #30 will be but i find this current number annoying so hope to get in 30's soon.

Funny story a woman who sits in cubicle next to me heard of my trip to Guadalupe and said, "that’s nice and congrats on 1st state highpoint", I'm like actually I am #at 29 it’s a hobby of mine. She goes "No Way! My husband is also a highpointer, he's at 48". He only needs Kings Peak and Mt Mitchell should finish in 2014. That's pretty random coincidence.

Jow, I saw on the climbers' log that you had been to Guadalupe. Amazing place. It was a holiday weekend and pretty crowded. The tent camping was completely filled, and as you know it is a journey through the desert to find anywhere else to legally camp unless you hike up the mountain. We "RVd" in the back of my friend's pickup truck...turned out just fine. The rangers were very cool about it...knew they had an overflow situation.

Good work Bark Eater, Nice new name as well! Sounds like your nailing out the high points with good company as well.

I haven't hit any high points lately, just been snowshoeing solo a lot up various mountains that don't have trails.

I noticed someone made a comment on the New Jersey High Point page that it was closed. If someone wants to take over this page and properly keep it up to date, I'm fine with that. I don't live close to that high point anymore, so someone closer should be in charge of that page.

I was surprised when we just visited High Point, NJ the weekend after Columbus Day that the monument was still open. And yes, we Easties are just a bit jealous of Nate moving to Summit County, CO!

Interesting story about Guadalupe last Saturday. As we cooked dinner and enjoyed a beer or three in the campground, we got to observe a "rescue" up on the mountain. Apparently somebody got tired...knees hurt...etc... and was able to get a cell phone call out. The NPS sent a couple of mules up the trail to haul them out. It was much anticipation watching the headlamps zig zag back down the switchbacks. They finally made it back down about 9 PM and everyone was fine.

Not me, Mark! Actually I was lugging 30-35 pounds for a day trip with water and food for some of the rest of the group. Just call me "Sherpa" :-)

I like the new name too!

We finally did some high points this year. Conflicting schedules got in the way until November. But we were determined to at least do a couple this year.

We drove down to South Carolina and Georgia the weekend of the ninth. We could not believe the great weather, or how close the leaves were to the fall peak.

Like others have said, sassafras is under developed. Apparently there is a plan to put a large and tourist friendly tower at the top. But nearby table rock State Park gets a lot more love. We were not well organized, and ended up driving most of Sassafras and hiking table rock mountain the next day.

Table rock is a spectacular hike with fantastic views and the biggest cliffs I have seen in the south east Table rock Mountain may have been the most crowded trail I have ever been on. It was a Sunday with temps near 70 and the trail is not that far from Clemson University. On the way down we counted 394 hikers hiking up as we descended. 394!

Brasstown bald in Georgia may be the best views we have seen from a high point, as good as Katahdin and Mount Washington. Cypress wanted to go to Helen, so we spent the afternoon there during a Civil War reenactment. We also found awesome free camping in the hills above Helen, with lots of sites on local creeks in the national forest.

We also hung out in Asheville, North Carolina, and had a great time. On the way back to Charlottesville, we came upon one of the best roadside attractions ever. It is called Foamhenge, and it is near natural bridge off interstate 81 exit 180. It is a life sized replica of Stonehenge, except it is on top of a hill and you can touch the stones!

So I finally passed halfway, and have 26 high points, and Cypress has 22. Hopefully next year we will finally do one out west.
