Definitely plan on doing Hawaii and possbily Denali. Otherwise, I will likely head back to the Boundary Waters and Quetico for some canoe trips.

I definitely want to do more hiking in the Wind River Range, New England, Grand Canyon, possibly Arizona county highpoints. Would like to return to and climb Mount Elbert and others in Colorado, Kings Peak in Utah, Wheeler Peak in New Mexico, Guadalupe Peak in Texas, and Mount Washington in New Hampshire again. Also Mount St. Helens and others in the Pacific Northwest. Highpointers Konvention is Oregon next year and I hope to attend. My wife has 30 highpoints and my son has 19 so I will probably go back to some with them.

I climbed Borah Peak with friend Dr. Steve on August 12th. What a beautiful day and tough climb! Will post a trip report when I get organized. I think the combination of a late spring and daily early summer thunderstorms produced a traffic jam on the trail this day with perfect weather. Probably saw 100 people...very busy but all pleasant, fun folk. Most amazing was Emma the dog (part mountain goat) who with her human party more or less accompanied us a good part of the way up and down. I never thought it possible that a dog could traverse COR. Wrong! #26 HP.

Holsti - congrats on climbing the MR on Whitney and reaching #48...! I'm going to climb Mauna Kea the week of March 3rd. Come join me! That'll be #50 for me and 49 for you. We'll both have good reason to celebrate!

I climbed Wheeler Peak yesterday. I expected this to be a simple late summer hike but it turned into a bit of an epic. I went up Bull of the Woods trail and descended via Williams Lake and encountered full winter conditions on the summit. It snowed 3-4" on the upper ridge with drifts up to my knees in some places. Temps were in the 30's. The wind was blowing ~30mph and visibility was less than 100ft. I wasn't prepared for that kind of weather but pressed on wearing only summer hiking boots and lightweight raingear. It was quite cold! I considered bailing out but the thought of returning the way I came was less appealing than reaching the summit and then descending the slope to Williams Lake, as I knew the descent route would be wind protected.

That's crazy just goes to show how things change year to year and day to day in mountains. last year i was there right around same time and it was t-shirt weather. Congrats on 49

I meant 46 highpoints not 49. Though I doubt you'll have much issue with the southeast

You never know. It'll be just my luck that a hurricane rips through the FL panhandle while I'm down there.

Wheeler seems to have developed a reputation for bad weather. When we were up there in August, 2009 we had wind-driven rain, stinging sleet, and temps. in the 30s. Congrats. on #46.

I will climb Mt. Rogers in conjunction with a work trip this coming weekend. Good work trip!

No horses visible on Mt. Rogers this morning. Only nearly bumped into a cow in the heavy fog in the pasture near the trailhead. Pleasant walk in the woods. #27 HP.
