These guys have been really busy stealing photos from SP

It's easy to make an expedition page nice, when decorated with photos stolen from other people.
Cheap bastards not even mailing asking fro permission or giving any credits.

From fieldtouring's Gasherbrum page. Many more than these:
<A href=//www.expedition.sk/viewer.php?file=g2-1.jpg&popis=Ga%9Aerbrum%20zo%20z%E1kladn%E9ho%20t%E1bora><b>1</B>
<a href=//www.expedition.sk/viewer.php?file=g2-3.jpg&popis=Ga%9Aerbrum%20I%20a%20II%20z%20C1><b>2</B>
<a href=//www.expedition.sk/viewer.php?file=g2-2.jpg&popis=Poh%BEad%20dole%20ne%EFaleko%20vrcholov%E9ho%20hrebe%F2<b>3</b><a>

From Huberschwiller.
<a href=//www.expedition.sk><b>Kili photo on first page displaying all the expeditions.</B></a>

From Losdestroy.
<a href=http://www.huascaran.expedition.sk><b>Top right photo on thsi page</B></A>

From me.
<a Href=//www.expedition.sk/viewer.php?file=shisha-1.jpg&popis=%8Ai%9Aa%20Pangma%20od%20z%E1padu><b>Xixa 1</B></A>

<a href=//www.expedition.sk/viewer.php?file=shisha-2.jpg&popis=Osamoten%FD%20%9Aerpa%20pred%20%8Ai%9Aa%20Pangmou><B>Xixa 2</B></A>

There are probably more.

On some of the pages on this expedition site you'll find a SP menber. hmmm.

Well hell, that's kind of annoying! Do you know if permission was given? I'd like to know a little more about it, since I put photos up here for other members to enjoy, not for big touring companies to hijack (not that they'd necessarily hijack MINE : ).

Wonder if there's any recorse here?

<i>Do you know if permission was given?</i>

You mean from the SP-staff?
Can they give permission?
I'm not knowledgeable at all when it comes to copyright issues.

One thing I know though and that is that I have not given these guys any permission to use my photos.

Looks like a Slovak page.

Brings home the importance of copyrighting your pictures with a note on the picture itself.

They're not public domain even if you don't include a mark on the picture itself, if I am not mistaken (which I may be, but I don't think I am). I don't think that the SP staff could give permission, and I know that if they did they would make sure you consented first, which would be the same as you giving permission. A nasty email would be perfectly in line in this situation...

You are not mistaken. Photos do not need to include a copyright mark on them to be considered private property and protected by copyright laws.

Looks like these guys ARE stealing photos and should be warned immediately. If they do not respond, you may want to notify their ISP and domain registrant. I've seen entire sites being taken offline for copyright violations.

Well, that sure as hell sucks.

Why don't we all pitch in and write them an e-mail pointing out the fact that they have copyrighted pictures belonging to Corax and others on their website which they use without permission. Then they might think about it before using more pics and maybe even remove these.. Who knows?

Agreed. Those that have been violated should contact the offenders with email. Speaking for the staff, the SP staff DOES NOT give ANYONE permission at any time for any reason to use material posted on SP anywhere else for any purpose. The stuff you post is YOURS. Your work and writings on SP are YOURS. Protect it. It is your right!

Ok, I was going to email them because this kind of thing is unacceptable, but I cant read any of the text, because of course the language barrier. If some one could post the correct email adress I would be more than happy to give them a piece of my mind.

I didn't look to verify that SP photos are on their website, but you can send email concerning fieldtouring to dave@fieldtouring.com .

There are SP members who have hijacked photos from other sites also...and these photos are voted upon and getting tons of stars. Not cool. Not right.

What do you guys think about <A HREF="http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/threadz/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/284002/an/0/page/11#284002">this situation</A>? Some guy on cascadeclimbers.com named Will Strickland, posted two shots from SP (one appears to have a bad link, the other is one of mine) to show for some beta, gave credit to summitpost but did not get permission from me or even ask me about it? Is this copyright infringement or since they credit summitpost, is it ok? Personally, I think it's kind of crap that I did not get asked about it. I have had one other photo of mine get used by the Mountaineers in Seattle but they asked me for permission and said they would not make any money off it.

They have taken perhaps the premium 6 images from our Gasherbrum II and Broad Peak image library - quite rude. The effort and cost to get those images is significant to say the least
http://www.expedition.sk/index.php?page=broadpeak
http://www.expedition.sk/index.php?page=gasherbrum2

We have a past client whom is a lawyer in the EU drafting a letter and will demand they are removed within 7 days. Our IT guy is also going to use a clause in the general ISP set-up regs and request the site be pulled within 21 days if the copyright infringement isnt remedied.

If you wish to add your voice and register your disgust to this, email: info@expedition.sk

Janne Corax - thanks for bringing this to our attention

Copy of letter sent to the criminals - I cannot include other images or act on behalf of the other affected parties, so you will need to send your own notice of intent,

I had to remove the copy of the letter at the behest of my lawyer...
