first book i've ever read about climbing. a really great read and i'd recommend it to anyone. made me want to find out much more about this stuff. anyone else read?

Yeah! Her non-climbing exploits were something else. I got a kick out envisioning her rapelling off a hot air balloon.

I read the book and enjoyed it because of the content. However, I don't think writing is Lynn's forte.

I couldn't figure out what her reason was for being so hard on Dean Fidelman. Some stories don't need to be told...

Other than that I enjoyed her book. True - she is a far better climber than writer.

Thanks to the OP and the others who posted about "Climbing Free". I read it and I really enjoyed it. I found it easy to read. It turns out Lynn grew up in Fullerton, CA very close to where I was raised in La Mirada. She is the same age as my wife and went to the same high school, Sunny Hills.

I chuckled as read Lynn tell about playing at the "tar pits". I spent lots of time there too, riding bicycles and motorcyles. Then later we all found out the tar pits were really the McCall dumpsite, an EPA superfund toxic clean-up site. What we thought was naturally ocurring, like the famous La Brea tar pits in L.A. was really just a place where oil companies dumped PCB laden waste chemicals in the 50's.

Climbing free is an awsome read, not my favourite climbing book but, it`s on the shelf and I read it now and again for inspiration !
She has led an amazing life as a climber, especially big wall climbing, world cup champion, a true ambasador to the sport.
The photos in the book are fantastic especialy and iconically when she leads the Great Roof in 1993.
And how did she survive that fall in Buoux, France, must have been a miracle, thank god she did, what a true ambasador for the sport !
