Perhaps this has been a thread in the past, but I am curious what music y'all listen to when driving to the trailhead or just driving through scenic country.

For myself, the James Gang and Joe Walsh are my go-to set, though the Eagles are not too far behind, especially if I am in the southwest (there may be a pattern there...). I confess to some Hank Jr too, which is a fall back to my days in the mountains around Chico, CA.

Do you know Old Crow Medicine Show? I saw them at Hardly Strictly back in October and they were nuts.

Trippy psychadelic space music from Iceland.

I'll never forget bouncing across the interior highlands of Iceland, the Sprengisandur, looking out across the desert and the ice caps, listening to the first CD by Sigur Rós.

It was like doing acid but better.

But Beethoven's Choral Symphony is a close second!

Apparently though his record label Geffen had sued him for making “uncharacteristic” albums, and Landing on Water was just another way to tick them off. Way to stick it to em Neil!

I started boycotting broadcast radio a decade or more ago when the RIAA refused to enter the Internet era for distribution of music. Once they finally did, they started a huge anti-piracy campaign which I found distasteful (no, I don't pirate). It's amazing where your musical tastes will go once freed from the boring, popular crap of Clear Channel Communication. Mp3.com (in its heyday), StationRipper, Zune DJMix, Pandora, Shazam (to ID tracks I hear wherever) and other independent music distribution channels are now my guide. I've found that I really enjoy the music of Amethystium, Peiter Nooten, Alexi Murdoch, Chicane, Age of Echoes, Helio Sequence, Badly Drawn Boys, Air (no, not that Air), Alpha Wave Movement, and a bunch of other mostly indy artists. If you subscribe to ZunePass, you can find many of these artists and download their music for no additional charge (Some of these artists are long since gone to the dust bin of history--thanks to the loss of mp3.com. Thank you, RIAA, for your successful campaign against the competition.). If you are an iPod person--I don't have any advice for you since you'll have to pay for each and every track--that must really suck.
