Check this one: go to www.nytimes.com/travel and click on " Joys of the Windows Seat." In the middle of the page with the photos, there is a dramatic shot of Everest. I tried to download & save this great picture for my desktop/screen-saver but was unable. Any suggestions on how to succeed?

Press Alt+Print Screen and paste the contents of the clipboard into any graphics program or use any screen capture utility. The resolution won't be full screen quality though.

Windows machine print sceen, open paint paste crop etc.

Apple machine: print to a pdf and fiddle

The images are set in an embedded flash file.

If you mean #28, the shot named as 'Mount Everest' ? That's Makalu.

It's a really nice view of the south face. The dark curving rock ridge coming down toward the camera is the SE ridge, which two Americans are currently tryin to climb. The left skyline is the famous 1970 West Pillar route.

I can only relate to the caption of # 23 which is presumably Mt Everest.

It certainly looks like Everest to me. I was lucky in that I took a similar flight (Delhi-Bhutan) in mid March 2010 & also had a clear view as in the photo.

However, I was much more awed by the impressive monolith of Kangenjunka, # 3 in the world, which really stood out from the other "lesser" peaks on the same flight path.

It's now coming up as #24 and #23, I guess it comes up differently each time.

It's caption is:

"I think this is the only scheduled flight that offers a great view of Everest - I made sure I got a window seat on the left side of the Druk Air Airbus from Delhi to Paro, Bhutan, via Kathmandu."

And the mountain is definitely Makalu, not Everest.

However the one coming up as #92, with the caption "I was flying from Paro (Bhutan) to Kathmandu (Nepal) on a wonderfully clear day, when I captured this view of the Top of the World" is certainly Mt Everest.

Regardless, it is all relative. Just think how lucky the photographer was to take the picture. Here is a quote from Mark Twain, in his unique amusing prose (taken from the page in SP)

Imagine, back then flying was not an option, just wait for clear weather!!!
