I would normally think this mentality is the exception and not the rule. After seeing voters give us Trump vs Hillary, I now stand corrected.

What's the difference between "summit or death" and choosing to do a route that's committing? Even on some popular routes like Rainier Liberty Ridge, if things turn south the choice can become "summit or die" since once you get to a certain point, the easiest way off such a route is to top out and descend another way.

It can be a fine line for sure.

Someone who would rather die, than surrender to bigger circumstances is suicidal or heavily retarderd. This would be far more than simple incompetency (lack of reflection or partial ignorance).
