I haven't heard much from folks lately about photos they appreciate. Just a heads up that what you post in this thread has a really good chance of getting into the featured photos. So please, post away! 8)

Anyways here's my choice for today:

Hey mountain goats....great pictures!!

Looking for a cool picture if one exists. Does the sun ever rise or set, or align might be a better word, over, or on top of might be the better word, the peak of Mt. Everest on either the sun's ascent into the sky, or descent back down to the horizon from its highest point. I don't know if the sun arc travel does, or allows, that but if it has at some point can someone point me to a picture of it. I Googled it but didn't find anything.

Thanks. SH

This is about the best I could find:

The problem is that Everest is so high that any photo of it with the sun right above it would still be a ways from "sunset" in terms of color. I suppose if someone went a ways away from Everest and captured it during sunset they could pull it off. But I have not seen such a picture yet.

Thank you JL. Pretty darn close if you ask me and one awesome pic. Will keep looking as time allows, and sunset would not have to be a variable. I was thinking a midday shot of it which looks like the one you posted. Hard to tell though if the sun is at its highest point in the sky when that photo was taken. Maybe 5 min later and it would have been right smack dab on top of the peak, IF the sun was not at its highest when it was taken. Kinda surprised really that a photo like that doesn't exist...I can't be the only one who thought of such a thing, can I.

Thanks again....if you ever run across something by accident, and if you remember, please shoot me an PM.

Beautiful shot, and not to be a weenie, but just for the record, Everest is the dark peak at left in the background

Yeah would be cool to see a sun setting on Everest I guess one would have to be on the Kangshung side for that to happen.

I have a heap of alpenglow pics of Everest

I was thinking that too, but I wouldn't know a mountain from a foothill in any real sense. I am totally surprised a picture is not available....maybe the sun misses it....don't know that one either. I just thought it would be a cool picture as a wallpaper.

I still check back here, obviously, to see if one eventually shows up. I can't image climbing something that high....my lungs would give out just looking at the enormity of the task.

Thank Matt Lemke, he was the one who mentioned Mount Brooks the other day and offered a potential expedition opportunity. When I saw the photo had only 5 votes I knew immediately it had to make the frontpage.
