Little light snow here in the city of Portland, this morning. .
Mt. Hood and its environs picked up an approx. foot last night, and it's still snowing up there! The second act of winter has finally arrived here in
the Pacific NW! :D

Like I posted above, be careful what you ask for. The EMCF and GFS are showing a possible additional 3-4" of very wet QPF through the following Thursday. Total potential QPF for the 6-7 day period indicated, Jan 19th-26th, 6-8" for both the Northern and Central Sierra.

So much for the drought.....

We got .28 inches of rain in Pine Valley last night, part of a "cut-off" low pressure system. First precip we've had in over a month. We are at 10.35 inches for the year, and hoping for another 15 inches before the season ends.

Being a little greedy I see Greg. The avg annual precip for you all in the SD/Pine Valley area is 10.4-12.6".

Hey Rick,

You got the avg on SD correct (as recorded at Lindberg), but Pine Valley does average 25" a year (27" depending on one's reference). In Pine Valley, we did get over 27 inches 2009/10 and 10/11, the first back to back normal/wet years out of the previous 12. We had some pretty dire years before the previous two seasons, one year recording only 3 inches (including as far north as L.A.).

On Tuesday, Dec. 20, following the second of two 15-inch snowstorms on Laguna, I foolishly attempted to ride my bike up Kitchen Creek to Sunrise Highway and ended up hiking the last couple of miles in foot-deep snow! What was I thinking?

The forecast tonight is for light snow. Tomorrow and Thursday are forecasted to have some heavy snow. After that it is rain for the next 6 days. Now that winter seems to be finally arriving, I think it is apropos to play a song that always comes to mind when the snow makes its first appearance:

I don't know if anybody saw this, but this exemplifies how different of a snow year this is.

As others have already pointed out, there is still a good chance that things will change and they already are for northern Arizona. Storms are supposed to be rolling in over the next few weeks!

Interesting link, Alex. Thanks for sharing. It is amazing how volatile the weather is becoming in recent years! The current storm bearing down on California this week and into the weekend looks like a doozy, hopefully those mouse-rollover maps will look less impressive by this time next week!
