Messner's signature?

Does anyone know what Messner's signature looks like? Can't find it online. I ordered his Annapurna book from some discount used book store. I opened it up and it looks like a signed copy (it was not advertized as a signed copy), though I'd like to know if it is real or not.

Scott, this site has some signed cards that you can see his signature pretty good, along with Habelers.

Thanks; looks just like the above:

Looks real. I had heard that it was a scribble.

Scott - that's an amazing bit of good luck! Hopefully it is his real signature - sure looks like it. I fortunately have been able to pick up some signed copies of books at used booksellers. Congrats...and thanks for posting.

Scott,

Messner's signature has indeed changed over the years. He used to write out 'Reinhold' but, as one can imagine, he has shortened that to just the 'R' that you see in the above example. What you have does indeed look authentic. If you'd like to see other examples, or with the full 'Reinhold', just let me know. Congrats on a great find!

Cheers, Greg Glade

I have 'My Quest for the Yeti' with the same signature (just the 'R').

Anyone have a clue as to what that word under my son's name is? Looks like "Tasli?", maybe "Taslin"?

Perhaps it's the Arabic term "tasbih", which as a verb, means "to travel swiftly".
Also, it's the name of these beads he wears as a necklace.

I think it's "Tashi," probably short for "Tashi delek" which the internet says is a Tibetan greeting meaning roughly "good luck." (I don't know Tibetan, but this seems likely.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tashi_delek
