Hey- what cool mountain names have you all seen? Personally I like Cloudripper in the Inconsolable Range; Isosceles Peak is pretty cool too. I read that in Alaska there's a Suicide and a Homicide next to each other. Of course, the Grand Tetons is always fun.

Any others?

Have you ever climbed a mountain because of its name?

The Picket Range in the North Cascades takes the cake for me. Mt Challenger, Mt Fury, Mt Terror, The Chopping Block, Mt Triumph, Inspiration Peak, Crooked Thumb, The Rake.

Deep in the Olympic Mountains inside Olympic National Park, there's a high spire that caught my eye known as ... the Bandersnatch. No lie ...

There's also a Jabberwocky near that same group of spires. Somebody must have been reading a Louis Carroll book.

Out in the In-Ko-Pah and Jacumba Mountains to the east of San Diego, where they were building an incredibly difficult rail line about a century ago there are a bunch of minor peak names that illustrate the railworkers' difficulties, like "Puff", "Gasp", and "Windy".

There is a Booger Red Hill near Cripple Creek, Colorado. One day I'll summit that peak just...because the name makes me chuckle.

Cloudripper came immediately to my mind, along with the Inconsolable Range, as you say.

I've always liked the Scylla, Three Sirens, and Charybdis set up near Goddard in the Sierra. Although not a mountain, Gorge of Despair has a nice aura.

The Doodad in the Sierra Sawtooth Ridge.

I admit to wanting to hike Brushy Sky High in the coastal range solely because of its name.

Oh-Be-Joyful Peak near Crested Butte, Colorado puts a smile on your face.

On the opposite end, back in the Pickets are also Despair and Damnation.

Zion National Park has the Mountain of Mystery, almost sounds like a carnival ride?

I didn't get up to Mollies Nipple yet ...

Mollies Nipple looks rather inviting from Utah Highway 89 ... can be elusive during flash floods.

Arizona has Earth Angel Spire, requiring a vast amount of bush-whacking ...

Sorry, must have been those mushrooms ... :D

Even though there are several interesting ski descent lines; I am a bit nervous about attempting to climb Avalanche Mountain. Avalanche Mtn. is in Glacier National Park in British Columbia, near the famous powder destination of Roger’s Pass.

Other cool names in the Glacier N.P. area include Grey Fang, Tumbledown Mtn., Justice Mtn. , Fortitude Mtn., Patience Mtn., Virtue Mtn., Faith Peak, Charity Peak and Hope Peak.

Sounds like to me that Justice Mountain would be a place where super heroes would hang out.

Bear Hat Mountain in Glacier NP (Montana) -- I always picture a bear wearing a hat shaped like this peak
YMCA Mountain near Cañon City, Colorado (I'll rely on Larry to provide the Village People YouTube)
