Yosemite National Park is recieving exceptional attention in this matter. People falling from Half Dome, kids drowning in the falls. My condolenses go out to the victims families, especially the mother who broke her back trying to save here son. This is a big place of major verticle relief and if you don't know it's workings before you venture into it's power...

Nice words, Windsor ... just proves that nobody has the ability to foresee the complete and ultimate pathway of their Destiny ... or existence!

^^^^Well, that is one way of looking at it. It is sad and a horrible shock to those involved.

Meanwhile, some die who may never have hit the trail, nor the water. Curry Village has always been the most frightening place in YNP to me. Rockfall nearby while buying gifts, pizza, and beer. Worse yet, intentionally living amongst the dangers of an overcrowded shantytown:

Don't forget the traffic jams, automobile destroying bears, nor the traps in the parking lot!

I was there 2 summers ago and hiked up to vernal falls with my kids. I was amazed at how many people were on the trail. It was the first hike that I have been on where I actually had to wait in line on several parts of the trail. Most people looked to be novices who didnt really understand how dangerous the park can be if you didnt respect it. I belive that the amount of tourists that YNP brings each year is the main reason why there is so many casualities.

Just another reason why I believe in Free Choice ... can a person not CHOOSE where they want to recreate on a busy weekend ???

Sorry, but I prefer remote areas, and mainly just during the weekdays. Busy places are NOT on my radar.

I lament self-employment... was so, so, so nice to do whatever I wanted whenever I wanted.

I've sort of gotten used to weekend crowds... sort of.
