Hey everyone,
I was just looking for some input on the map table I just made on my Glacier Peak Wilderness Page see below:

Scroll down to see it...it didn't take me that long to make only about 45 minutes and I was wondering if you guys think I should add it to my other area/range pages.
The cool thing is that the table orders the maps as they would appear on a Washington State reference map of USGS Topos. North is Up etc.

Neat idea. Looks great. One problem is that it stretches my screen. When I use firebug and remove the maps from the page it is hardly stretched. So just my 2 cents, have 5 thumbnails per row instead of 6. This would make it pretty much perfect.

Anyways, I'm sure people will love it.

I agree with Josh - the table is a teensy bit too wide for many monitors. To preserve the east-west ordering, you could make each cell smaller: shrink the thumbnails and the cell borders, and use a smaller font for the map titles. You could also make the table width dependent on the page width so the cell padding will expand to fill space if and only if space is available.

I hate to say it now that you've obviously put in some effort, but you could also link to or embed a site like this:

(Keep the actual USGS topos on Summitpost too. It's good to have a backup, especially one that's indisputably in the public domain.)

As stated above - a bit too wide...but way cool! An excellent addition to the page, as well as any of your pages.

Love the link above although the beauty of the table of maps is that someone can open a reasonably sized topo map (not like 30MB but also not a few KB!) and save it on their computer and print it out if they so desired.

And to my surprise...people are still using computer monitors other than 1080p?????????????? It is nowhere near too wide on my screen

I wish I had 1080px wide. My screen is 1024px wide. Mine used to be the old standard (I think) which is probably why SP has large images resized to 1024 px. I keep trying to tell Matt that lots of people still have smaller screens, especially schools, libraries, and the less tech. savvy folks.

I admit though that someday I'll probably upgrade my monitor. I don't support old versions of Internet Explorer because they have the freedom of choice to upgrade or go with firefox. With a monitor you don't have the freedom of choice, I'm stuck with a maximum resolution of 1024px. Pages in my opinion should always work for most of the people not just half or a third.

SummitPost's template is a good example of this, they designed it so that it stretches to the users monitor rather than a set width so that everyone can enjoy pages well.
