Wastral, nice theoretical tips, but something is laughable all right.

1 to write a long post after skipping the first page of the thread and missing out on old global warming battles on SP? :?:
1 to give thanks for the lecture

Seriously though, I'm not disuaded from getting efficient, long-lasting lightbulbs as long as I get a good deal on them. It ain't because of global warming either. Every bit spent on electricity and short lived lightbulbs adds up over time. I hardly use my heater nor air conditioner, but my refrigerator uses some juice despite being pretty well rated and new.

Pretty sneaky how they replaced the heavy magnetic ballasts in CFLs with electronic ballasts, and now zap the filament to decrease the start time... which also makes the bulbs burn out really quickly (in comparison to old CFLs). OH wait, not serious. Carry on.

The whole CFL thing is a smokescreen to get China to reopen the cinnabar mines, thereby poisoning the populace, removing a competitor. Once the Chinese CFL manufacturers are out of the picture, the ruthless Swedish CFL cartel will be unstoppable. You can take that to the bank. Or, you can shove it up your ass. Or someone else' ass, if that person is a consenting adult; summitpost does not discriminate based on lifestyle choices. (But occasionally we shoot bolters, or non-bolters, people who say "Sierras," those who use laundry markers or dental floss to desecrate ropes.) This is definitely tied to the tri-lateral commission.

Meanwhile, read up on the symptoms of mercury posioning, e.g. hair loss, emotional lability, memory impairment, and / or insomnia. Ask yourself: have any of these symptoms increased since I joined SP? Are CFLs really worth it? Personally, I've never had emotional lability, but for some reason this thread is making me cry, and alternately laugh, and STOP STARING AT ME LIKE THAT, YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I MEAN.

As for memory loss,

As for Al Gore, I'm glad we didn't forget the man without whom SP could not exist, even though he does tend to overheat global warming threads. Besides spending too much time on SP, my wife thought I had lost my mind when I came home with a dozen or so CFLightbulbs and a Nobel Prize on some rebate deal from Costco. Geez, maybe I have.

Speaking of politicians, maybe an SP member will do the math for me on how many tax dollars were spent on laws, rebates programs, and campaigns promoting efficient lightbulbs and their proper disposal. I bet heat pumps and micro baloons aren't the only things we could come up with spending it on instead. Maybe funds could go toward:
-SAR crews rescuing hikers who are too tired to walk out
-Additional rangers designated for ticketing drivers of 4WD vehicles who fail to carry chains in Yosemite
-Adding an additional cable to Half Dome
-Adding more staff to manage additional permit systems indiscriminately designated throughout the Sierra
-Picnic tables for bears
-Habitat protection for lone wolves
-Educational programs to prevent species such as cougars from being treated like crap.
-Full healthcare coverage and generous pensions for the numerous staff who specialize in checking and replacing efficient lightbulbs in heated bathrooms with flush toilets at remote state park trailheads

15 to start working their way through changing lightbulbs in every US county, doing it again in winter, then in as fast a time as possible.

My Favorite: One forum lurker six months from now to start it all over again......

Really aggrevating to read an interesting title, only to discover it was a forum discussion two years ago, for cryin' outloud! There ought to be a cutoff date, or something.

None the less, this should have been an "article". Too good to waste on the Forum.
