Though it is much easier to camp on BLM-controlled areas (usually). NPS -- not so much. More information often comes with more rules and more control. If they have the money to produce fancy maps showing you what you can do, they often have a lot of employees who have lots of free time to make up proscriptive, nonsensical rules.

For only $69/night, NPS camping gets you rockfall. For the more timid, an extra $20 gets you the "signature" cabins and hantavirus.

Scott raises another point that favors BLM over NPS. The firearms restrictions are more severe on NPS land than BLM. Firearms are not allowed at all in Federal facilities in national parks. In case of zombie apocalypse, the Federal facilities are more likely to be attacked, as they have a high concentration of tourists. So, not are you more likely to be attacked by zombies on NPS land, you are less likely to be able to defend yourself.

On a more serious note, I like the solitude and lack of development on BLM and USFS land. However, sometimes I really do enjoy talking to NPS rangers about the things to see in the park, and also to get touron stories.

So what's the debate here, one is the pretty prude girl you tell all your friends about because she is smart and hot, but not all that fun. And the other is the trashy girl from the wrong side of the tracks who lets you do whatever you want to her.

One isn't better than the other, maybe more of whatever you're in the mood for.

The trashy girl is better.
