Less than you unless you're unemployed.

He didn't until someone gave him an answer in NZ dollars. That post went out with the wash...

Bit slow on the uptake this morning on account of knocking off three bottles of Coopers, after which, a bottle of very ordinary claret seemed like a good idea.

How many days out of the year do you plan on guiding on Everest? Yeah, $325/day isn't bad......but it's not a 200+ day gig. A trained monkey could make $100 in an hour of street performance, but it doesn't mean he's going to make that every hour.

I've heard panhandlers in LA make more than "average" professional mountain guides. Of course, mountain guide gigs usually include room and board, basic as it may be.

I'm not sure how common the practice is, but some I know some guys have guided Everest for no pay. Their compensation was a free trip to Everest which is quite expensive.

I was going to say the same thing. If you are a "junior" guide, it's pretty common (or used to be) to not be paid for international trips. Airfare/permits/food/etc. are your pay for several weeks work.

My old climbing buddy Bill Crouse has been to the summit of Everest 7 times. Not all of those summits were as a guide. I don't think his salary plays much of a role in what he does.
