But 'Buz,' this thread isn't in Off Route. The OP knew this was going to be a controversial subject to begin with

Holy Batman! Still haven't got a clue what 'bff' means ... Geez Louise.
Larry, a
bff might
celebrate memories of you with a song if you head out, but then don't live to hike another day.

I
celebrated The Fourth of July by allowing a large boulder to fracture my ankle in two places. Rescue scenarios crossed my mind a few times after spending six hours hopping from near The Incredible Hulk to Mono Village/Twin Lakes on one leg (with a bit of limping, sliding, and crabwalking mixed in). It could have been worse. I found many more things to be thankful for than to be upset about. Calling for help was unnecessary, so I didn't. I taped myself up, made the most of my supplies, and enjoyed the scenery.
A wilderness ranger I met at a wedding last week has been rescued via helicopter a couple of times despite feeling and expressing that being rescued by an SAR team or helicopter was unnecessary (other people called for help when she got hurt). I don't have more specific details about her rescues at this point.
