Two years ago, Walter Bonatti, the greatest of all, left us. In our memories he will forever be remembered as a man of integrity, with himself and with others, refusing any compromise that did not reflect his own way and respect for the mountain.

He also left us some pages of alpine literature. "Le mie montagne", published by Zanichelli in 1961, which was later supplemented and re-released under the title "Montagne di una vita" by Baldini, Castoldi, Dalai Editorre in 1995, is certainly the book that inspired so many of us. Tonight in Trento, his companion Rossana Podesta, will premiere the film that is dedicated to him, "W di Walter".

Ciao macintosh, and thank you for this post. When I started climbing mountains at the age of 16, I idolized Walter Bonatti. I read every piece of literature written on his many mountain and rock wall ascents. I even tried to emulate his style by spending nights in the mountains with only a shirt on my back. I naively wanted to be as tough as Walter. That never happened, but I always thought to myself what would Walter do in this situation!

Rest in Peace Walter Bonatti and know that you were a king in my book.
