Triple Traverse:

Next Saturday May 8.

I don't recall what time we began hiking Tanner's last year, but I recommend no later than 6AM. 5AM may be a good idea. What say you mountaineering wizards? If weather is an issue next week--for example if it looks like it did today--then I suggest we assume to go the week after, May 15.

As always, you'll need to arrange a shuttle from Broad's Fork trailhead to get back to LCC.

Apparently we all met at 4:45 last year.

A quarter to 4AM? Yikes! How about we meet at Tanner's in LCC at 5AM. That means shuttlers will meet at Mill B South parking with enough time to drive back to LCC.

5AM for Triple Traverse

Can't make the TT this year, sadly -- I was looking forward to skiing it. Will be floating down Cataract Canyon instead.

Like Alec, we will not be attending the Triple Traverse with all of you this year. We are going down to the Tushar Mountain Range for some backcountry skiing a week early because of next weeks stormy forecast. We are still in for the May 28 Cold Fusion Trip though.

The avalanche conditons should not be a big concern on Saturday, considering the couple days of warm temps during the day and cool temps at night. I think the most you'll see up there is some big ass cornices + the usual glide cracks in Broads Fork. Enjoy the climb and we will be sure to cut some turns out there in the Tushars for all of you.
Here is a picture of part of the Triple Traverse from 2 weeks ago.

Yes, gotta watch those cornices. I'm reminded of that huge chunk that broke off West Twin a couple years ago, a few feet from some hikers.

Jepson's Folly looks like it'll be a blast to negotiate.

It's on. How many are planning to show up for the Triple Traverse on Saturday? If it's just a few of us, we should plan to meet at Broad's Fork TH to arrange shuttles.

I'd suggest a very early start to eliminate potential of getting caught by a cement mixer in Tanners gulch.
Temperatures are currently forecast to be 10° warmer than today, on Saturday.
Good luck and have fun.

Is anyone planning to go on the Triple Traverse tomorrow? I am planning to go, but if there are no others, I will probably go earlier than 5 AM and come back down Tanners. If I can get at least one other to go, then we can partner up and put a car on the other side in Broad's Fork.

Matt - I was going to try and come down from Logan, but It doesn't look like I'll make it this time. Have fun and be safe if you guys still end up going.

OK, maybe next year, Travis.

OK, hear is my FINAL PLAN for tomorrow's Triple Traverse:

I am going to be starting a little--not much--later. I will be at the base of Tanners at around 6AM to start. For those who prefer to start earlier, go for it and I'll see you up there.

For anyone that is going at 6AM, I'll leave my car at S-Curve (Mill B South TH) in Big Cottonwood Canyon for a shuttle back to LCC. I can carry 2, maybe 3 others.

Just got back today from backcountry skiing the Tushar Range. My usual group of partners heard that I was back and they want to ski Tanners Slide Path and possibly summit Sunrise Peak tomorrow (Sunday). My question for you guys is did anyone get up there today? What are the conditions up there (corniced, thin, icy)? How was the boot pack up Tanners (icy, crampon worthy, terrible, full of avalanche debries)? Any info would help out.....hope you guys had a good one out there.
