Doughnut Falls Question?

So I went hiking with my cousins, and we could not find the freaking waterfall. There were a maze of trails, and we tried about 4 different trails. one became very steep, and we met an old guy who told that this particular trail goes to the Mines. Once we came back, there a roaring stream following a mini cliff that we climbed down from. We tried to advance as much as possible, but we had to turn back, still no sign of the actual waterfall.

From the restrooms at the summer trailhead you will have 2 options. The best is to head south straight up a well defined trail. Eventually this trail will bend east to a bridge that crosses the river. Once the river is crossed continue heading up (south) and keep to the left at any trail junctions.

Option #2 Start by heading west from the restrooms to where a roadblock gate is located. Follow this path as it bends to the south and when you see a junction head left.

To reach the actual falls you will have to cross the river. A well beaten path leads all the way to the falls on both sides of the river. Remember with both of these trails that as long as you keep near the river, you will reach the falls. Good luck and happy trails.

Thanks a lot, and to make more sense, as soon as you reach the stream, you have to jump down this big rock right?? and then you cross the stream on some logs, and there is a steep trail going up. I tried going up it, but my cousins were on the other side, trying to climb up the rocks, so i had to meet up with them.

I was up there a few weeks ago and put this page together with pictures, route description and map. http://www.willhiteweb.com/big_cottonwood_canyon/doughnut_falls/hiking_trail_130.htm
Let me know if you saw what I call the falls. I was thinking they are more of a cascading creek but this is where everyone was hiking to and then turning around. (Shot was only a 60 second walk from the rock you downclimb).

that is exactly what I am talking about Eric, that is not the Doughnut falls we always hear about. My guess is that you have to cross the stream, and there is a steep beaten path on the East side. The actual fall is behind the so-called falls that you can see in the photo.

As you can see in this photo, that's my cousins in front of the stream. That is not the actual fall. To the left, you can see what looks like a trail left of the tree. My guess is that, that trail can lead you to the actual waterfall.

I think I see the problem. If you google image donut falls, you'll get several images of the falls. The falls drop through a hole in the rock. It's a really small drop. At the top of our pictures, you can see the falls. But, because of the high snowmelt, the water is no longer just going through the hole or donut but it pouring over the whole area. In this rare case, it is better to visit the water falls when the water isn't so high. That trail on the other side just gets you closer to the highest part of the falls...the only falls when the water level is normal.

Everyone and their grandma has been there so someone should be able to confirm this for us.

And there are the hikers going up what wasn't possible for us. See the rocks match.

which would make perfect sense seeing as how the creeks flooded this year, something that has not happened for over 2 decades. No wonder who ever I ask says just jump over that rock and you'll see the falls.

I can't help but laugh at this thread...and not in an insulting way either. The reason I say this is that I just hiked up there with my roommate last Saturday. We weren't headed to the falls but stayed instead on the mining road. On the way back down, however, we ran into quite a crowd of people who were lost, trying to find the falls. They had gone too far and looked a little frustrated. I told them all that I would show them the way if they wanted me to. Only two girls opted for that...they were their own party. But I wanted to see what was so confusing about the trail down there. I myself have been there many times, but this time I really took note of how many trails fork off and I can see why people get so confused. And someone on this thread mentioned that it will look really different because the runoff is so high this year...definitely true!

Makes me wanna go up and check it out again.
