Concerning the fall colors, has anyone ever seen them last this long (especially the Aspens)? I grew up hiking the Wasatch, but I never recall autumn leaves lasting this long. Sometimes we would go hiking on or around my brother's birthday on October 8 and even then it was somewhat of a crapshoot as to how many autumn leaves were left. Usually they peak at the end of September/very early October.

Usually by now a large storm would have already knocked them off by now. Sounds like that might just happen today. If anything the fall colors started a little early this year.....but I will admit that the color band took longer than usual to receed down each mountain/canyon.....which is just fine with me.
The color band pictured here started 2 weeks earlier than last year.

Awesome shots. I remember being in a blizzard mid Sep around 2002 at Brighton, we went down to Dog Lake/Butler Fork and there was snow almost knee deep in quite a few places.

Even without the snow, I've still never seen them this late. For example, when we climbed Deseret on October 16 1999, there wasn't a leaf in sight even though it was also a warm and dry fall. Many other times the leaves were long gone before that even without the snow. We used to do Circle All Peak every year in between October 1-10, but often the leaves would be gone.

Grandeur Peak is still going off as of Sunday. This area has been really spectacular this year....
