Utah Ice Conditions (Post HERE)

Im hoping this will initiate some kind of build of various threads. If there is a route that you know the conditions of, post it new or reply to the already posted route. There aren't enough resources out there to inform people about conditions and a lot of the destinations are out of the way. Include Joe's Valley, Little Cottonwood, Provo, Maple, and whatever others you can think of! I will do my best to help too.

Yesterday (12-24) I hiked up to the base of GWI, there is about three milimeters of ice. If the temperature just gets a little colder then it will be in fine shape in about a week. I will head up again Thursday or Friday, to check the conditions on stairway to heaven and bridal veil.

checking out GWI soon

Scratch that. I will be checking it out saturday morning about. I was hoping this minor flurry would freeze us until the next big storm but il check it out midway through that one. Keep you all posted.

Hey guys,

I'll be heading to Utah at the end of this month for some ice as I've never been on any ice there. I'll be in Ouray for a bit before then. Anyone one of you care to show me some of the classics? I'll swap leads. Send me a message. Would be greatly appreciated as I cant find a partner that has the time off work to head there.

Noah

I climbed GWI on Thursday. It was pretty thin but I bet by Sat or Sun it was much better. The snow was chest deep at the base of the first ramp.

Southern Utah Update
Climbed Mush for Brains (off I-15, south of Cedar City) on Tuesday night Jan. 4. It had a steady stream of water cutting through the middle of it and the top was too wet, but was otherwise as TR-able as it gets! Not sure if it is still in, but I would imagine it will be at least partially there as the temps stay low.

Camp Creek (Kanaraville) is in but also has a big stream that is probably repeatedly cutting itself out and then reforming.

Going to check out Hidden Haven (Parowan Canyon) on Saturday morning and will report back on it...

Southern Utah Update #2
Climbed Camp Creek in Kanaraville. The ice is in pretty fat, although there is still a steady stream that is keeping the right side pretty hollow. The left side is great.
Also, there is a pillar that may be touching down for the first time that we climbed on TR- located just south of Camp Creek above the last col-de-sac. We named it the Chekshani Pillar. Excellent ice, really steep and super fun! Probably the best ice in Southern Utah right now.

Nice pics! Cool to hear about Southern Utah Ice.

Now's the time for getting after it. Stairway is in fat, climbed the first pitch and saw another party on #3 and 4. It's in through 5. Bridal Veil right looks fat, Left and White Nightmare not as fat but still in. Saw a bunch of ice on the other side of the canyon in some of those gullies, too.

Heading to Provo Canyon this weekend. Has anybody been there within the week and know if the ice is still good? Also, if peeps want to meet up, send me an email. Going to meet a buddy from St. George to find ice around there.

Cheers
Kevin
