Hi,
Has anyone been in the Mt. Timpanogos area recently? How much snow is still on trail?
I was planning to go there next Saturday (May 14) just with poles and hiking boots, but I am wondering whether crampons and ice axes will be necessary.
Thanks a lot for advice!

Unless you are going up any steep couloirs, or on a route that remains in shadow, you could probably go up in light hiking boots, shorts and t-shirt. Snowshoes may be helpful too. If it was me I would take an axe if I plan to go to the summit.

If it were me I would have crampons and an axe. There is still an incredible amount of snow on the mountain and if you go up one of the standard routes to the main summit you will have to go up some steep snow covered slopes. There will be no trail.

Then again, you might get lucky and have some steps already kicked in all the way to the top, but I wouldn't take any chances. Good luck!!

A buddy was up there over the weekend. The hut next to Emerald Lake is still buried up to the top of the chimney, so his guess was there still about 15' of snow. Easy crampon hiking up Primrose Cirque with the great snow coverage.
