Really? Only in Utah? After reading that article, I'd be surprised if any parent, male or female, in any state, wouldn't be charged likewise. The lady had her own kid carrying the bottle, for Pete's sake.

I'm no fan of social conservatives, but this is hardly an example of Utah's oppression of women.

Just my two shiny pennies ... this could have happened ANYWHERE in today's Society. I really don't see any light at the end of this dark tunnel ..

Bob I am not sure if you meant, in a sort of backhanded way, to imply that Utah oppresses women. Care to elaborate? I know plenty of Utah women - I even sleep with one every night - and she's pretty typically "Utah". I will have to ask her if she is oppressed.

No, I didn't mean that. What I mean is that if one wants to make that case, and some do, this is a pretty poor way to do it since it is a case of lousy parenting no matter where it occurs. It's more a reference to the thread title.

Only in Utah what? a woman being a hardcore alcoholic or her being charged with child endangerment? I can tell you it happens everywhere. I woman I know just drank herself to death 2 months shy of her 41st birthday (12 July) leaving behind a husband and a five year old son. There was no child endangerment in her case because the husband got custody and threw her out before it came to that. (I am the surviving spouse BTW.) That gal in the article probably won't live another 5 years.

Anyone have any photos of this outdoorsy and carefree vodka consuming 31 year old damsel in distress?

Only In New York will they ban sodas one week and then celebrate citywide donut day the next.

Some fantasies are best left as just that, but let us know how it goes. Things could get even more interesting than you imagine.

It could be worse... At least she wasn't breast feeding her 5 and 12 year old kids while drunk.

I've lived here in Utah since 1979 and I haven't ever met a polygamist, more or less seen one. And as far as taking a kid hiking while your drunk... that's just plain retarded... anywhere.

Personally I feel pretty damn lucky to live here in Utah. Got a gorgeous mountain range in my backyard to explore, less than half an hour from my house. The opportunities here are awesome... nearly endless. Able to take my kids out (sober) and show them the cool terrain here just like my Dad did for me when I was their age.

This state really is a pretty cool place to live. Damn straight.

A fine place indeed! I have thoroughly enjoyed every visit, and have yet to visit the northern part. I've got lots in mind that I ran out of time for on previous trips.

As far as polygamists, I'm pretty sure I met some on Easter a few years ago. They pulled up near where I had parked for the night in some sort of ATV train and scurried around Water Canyon as I hiked upward to a far off high point, passing grand scenery the entire way. I met an example of the inbreeding the nearby town is known for as well (a fun retarded guy on his ATV with a cattle dog that followed him around). http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hildale,_Utah No joke!
