Hey guys,

I'll be out in the Moab area the first week of October. I've been looking at climbing Mt. Peale one of those days, but wanted to know if there were any other peaks in the area that might be worth a look. No 4WD, not looking for anything technical. Also wondering about weather in the area around that time, I assume it can still get pretty hot down in the desert still but how is it usually up in the mountains around that time ? Hoping the fall colors in the La Sal's would be good around that time as well, or would that be too early/too late already ?

also, is the Moab area/Canyonlands still pretty busy into the first week of October usually ?

Base yourself around Gold Basin/Geyser Pass and there will be plenty of peaks. If you are in a passenger car, it's the most logical access to Peale.

Mellenthin, Manns, and Tomasaki are other recommended ones in the area.

If you don't mind a bit of scrambling, Tukuhnikivatz/Peale make a good combo/traverse.

If you do Peale from the south and if the road isn't too route, you can do Tukuhnikivatz, Peale and South Mountain, but as mentioned, if you have a passenger car you might want to come in from the north.

Those are just averages and it can be really nice or snowy that time of year.

Usually right on, but this year they are changing early.

Yes, it still can be busy. Not as busy as April/May, but October is probably the 3rd most popular month.
