Vertical picture being distorted

Thank you Montana Matt and mrchad9. I am sure that the code making images the same height will come in handy in the future.

So now I have another question. If I use alignleft and medium the image comes out smaller than if I use aligncenter and medium. Is this a bug or a feature?

If you were referring to my code, it is a bit different if you want the photo centered...

Code: Select all
<center><div class='thumb'><div style='width:502px;'><a href='/view_object.php?object_id=535583'><img width='500' src='/images/medium/535583.jpg'></img></a><div class='thumbcaption'><div class='magnify' style='float: right;'><a href='/view_object.php?object_id= 535583' title='Enlarge'><img src='/images/layout/abby/magnify.gif' alt='Enlarge'></img></a></div>Michael about half way through the ridge</div></div></div></center>

By the way I use this code to post images at nonstandard widths on my pages and keep the familiar frame around them (in my case for panoramas- I like them to be about 50% wider than a medium). Just change the 502 and 500 in the code above to whatever width you like (keeping the first number 2 higher).

If you make the width over 500, then change the word 'medium' that is buried in there to 'large'.

Thank you Mr Chad, but I was referring to how if I don't do anything fancy and just use the standard way to insert an image, that the first statement below produces a significantly larger image than the second statement below.

[img:535583:aligncenter:medium:Michael about half way through the ridge]

[img:535583:alignleft:medium:Michael about half way through the ridge]

Ah-

Previously a medium sized photo was always 500 pixels wide, as a result photos taken horizontally were always a good bit smaller than photos taken vertically, as you might have noticed.

I believe the code for pages was changed a short time ago so that left or right aligned photos were a max of 500 pixels in either direction, width or height. This makes the vertical photos a bit smaller than they used to be, since now 500 px high, rather than wide. (I think this is an improvement)

It appears the center aligned photos are unchanged, and still use the old mechanism. Matt would have to confirm if that was intentional or not.

Got this PM from user Neghafi. Could someone please look into this!

Can you please ask an admin why this happened for me?
Thanks a lot

Tried to upload some pics, and got this error :

Code: Select all
insert_image_dimensions() failed: DB Error: no database selected

The image file in question is about 4Mb in size, 10Mpix resolution. Have the upload limits changed ?

Also noted that the failed upload resulted in an empty page instead, for example :

I tried to find the "Longest lines of sight photographed......." thread by doing a Forum Search. I selected "Topic titles only" and tried search keywords "sight" and "photographed" but neither turned up ANY results.

I wound up finding the thread myself down in page 7 of General.

Sorry if this issue has already been addressed somewhere else!

The "Private" setting is not working on the POTW album. Someone just added a photo to the album which is not a POTW photo. I double-checked the album setting and it is set to "private". Nobody should be able to add photos to the album except for me and 2skinners.

Google Ads issue on my Droid 2

Hi,

I am a new member, but have been lurking for months looking at summitpost. I love the site and decided to join today because on my droid phone when I go to summitpost.org home page, or any page for that matter, all I see is google ads. I can't click on anything else, or even view anything but the ads. I had previously saved some of the pages to my phone to be available offline, but when I got to them and then try to click on anything that isn't saved to my phone, same thing happens and I see the ads.

What can I do? I tried to search google and contact them and its like moving the sun to get them to do anything.

Thank you. Love the site.

Matt,

There seem to be a few bugs induced by the chatbar on my computer, win XP and IE8.06

1) I get a horizontal scroll bar in SP's main content area (not in the forums), that appears and disappears with the chat bar. It is only a few pixels that I can scroll.

2) There are javascript errors (I get the yellow triangle in the bottom left). On forum pages it says:

Object is expected (I translated it from dutch btw)
Row: 977
column: 13
Code: 0
URI: http://www.summitpost.org/phpBB3/

And on other pages when I'm not signed in:

'Themes' is not defined
Row: 157
column: 1072
Code: 0
URI: arrowchat/external.php?type=js

As a part-time web programmer myself, these little orange/yellow triangles are very disconcerting to me ;)

There has always been a way around the private-attach-only feature, which I learned to my dismay a few years ago. I won't describe it so others don't get ideas. The best one can do is periodically check such albums for unwanted attachments and delete them. If a member persists, explain; he or she may not understand, especially if it's a newer member. If the member persists after that, you could contact the staff and let us give it a try.

Welcome to SP

Thank you.
More bad news. Gave me this error now when I tried to choose minimal ads and click update:
update_user_profile() failed: DB Error: no such field
