Alright I'll fess up what happened. For a while I actually didn't know why the problem was happening. Anita wanted some fancy code to do something. She told me she was getting my forum notifications. :? I hadn't been getting any of them since like March. :x Then I figured "hey, I don't suppose it had anything to do with editing profiles from my account?". While Chad can sometimes be a guy not to mess with, he is also good at identifying things and using convincing arguments. So I "edited his profile" without actually changing anything (again, nothing on Chad's profile was changed). Sure enough he got my notifications. I hoped for two things in this experiment:

1. To know for sure if admins editing a profile would trigger forum notifications for that person

2. Hoping that he would contact Matt about this to show that it's not just a one person user error but possibly a global administrator error.

I turned off notifications by default and unsubscribed from all topics. Everyone who got my notifications should no longer be getting them now. Chad was the only one who I intended to get them (and even then I kinda hoped he wouldn't). Because it was temporary I figured it wouldn't be a big deal for Chad, but I apologize if it was. I knew I could unsubscribe from all my topics which is why I regarded it as a safe move. In the future I should use a test dummy account for such things. In other words, I've only ever did an experiment like this on Chad's profile which I knew that it wouldn't effect his profile in any other way.

Josh- quit editing my and other people's profiles. ALWAYS use empty accounts... that's what every other admin on this site does.

You should NEVER experiment using my or any other active member's profile. I shouldn't have to tell you that.

I get that a lot too. There must be some technical issue with the server, as I get it on multiple devices and not with any other websites.

Not only has the site been slowing down, but it also has been timing out for me. I can usually expect a page to fail to load at least once per day.

This, too, is probably Josh Lewis's fault.

The other members requested me to add the code. So for the other members I'm completely justified. But your account editing... well I kinda knew it would happen. Again, I should have thought it out better with Chad's profile. I have discovered that any technical issue I encounter cannot be solved. I refused to believe that hence leading up to my failure. But I gotta live with it until later this year.

When testing code I actually use the testing profile to do stuff.

I made a lot of changes and edited all my trip reports recently. So perhaps I ought to put less work into SP to make it run faster. Maybe if I quit SP will load in under a second. Too bad I like this site too much to do that. 8)

No kidding.

And your actions are not justified... including you playing dumb when I emailed you about this yesterday (after I knew you had fucked something up).

I know which is why I was making it public. Making stuff public for myself builds more pressure which builds more accountability for myself. As a result it will serve as a reminder for me to carefully consider such things in the future. Naturally I'm one of the worst people to be an elf, same goes for being a mountaineer or anything in my life. I'm not born for it, but I'm going for it anyways. The fact that I'm willing to make serious efforts in both fields make it possible to be a good one. Or at least that is my hopes. I don't see how my post was in anyway justifying my experiment. I could have told you this in private but specifically chose not to.

Regarding playing dumb: I was not playing dumb. I should have explained what I did. But someone else was having the notification issue as well which to my knowledge I don't recall editing their profile. This glitch has been on going for months now. I was pretty sure I knew who was getting my email notifications. You asked if the messages were going around SP which I replied "who knows" because I honestly don't even know! (even now) I chose you because I knew (or thought) you could take it. But I had utter disregard for forcing someone into doing good that they didn't want to have to do. For that I give you my sincere apologies. While I'm still at fault, the fact remains that this sort of issue should not exist in the first place.

Before walking away on such a negative note, here's a quote that expresses my feelings as an artist. The persistence of trying to build a perfect piece even though they are destined to be flawed:

“All of us have failed to match our dream of perfection. I rate us on the basis of our splendid failure to do the impossible. If I could write all my work again, I'm convinced I could do it better. This is the healthiest condition for an artist. That's why he keeps working, trying again: he believes each time that this time he will do it, bring it off. Of course he won't.” -William Faulkner

Tips:

* Creating art does not make one an artist.

* Calling yourself an artist is pretentious.

* Computer wizardry is not art; it is computer wizardry.

Now carry on with the regular program of Josh-bashing...

Right. If someone rarely does it it would be kinda a loose claim.

Bob Sihler wrote:* Calling yourself an artist is pretentious.

Well, I got nothing on this one.

Really? What about Graphic design? What about web stylist? It requires both creativity and the ability to make it pleasing for the eye.

And my photography counts towards nothing? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arts#Photography

Well okay so maybe I don't spend most of my time on art, but the graphic designers and such shouldn't be undermined just because they use a computer.
